Metcalf & Eddy, Inc. (M&E), a Delaware corporation, was an environmental engineering firm headquartered in Wakefield, Massachusetts that provided services inside and outside the United States. Its parent company was Aqua Alliance Inc. (Aqua).

According to Aqua's SEC filings, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Boston, Massachusetts began conducting an investigation of certain entertainment and travel payments allegedly made to Egyptian officials between 1994 and 1996 by M&E while M&E was performing services in Egypt pursuant to contracts with the United States Agency for International Development.

M&E cooperated with the investigation.

Although Aqua’s June 14, 1999 10-Q filing was the last disclosure regarding this investigation, this investigation was settled between M&E and the DOJ in December 1999.
