Merck & Co., Inc. ("Merck") is an American multinational pharmaceutical company incorporated and headquartered in New Jersey. Its common stock is traded on the NYSE.

In its August 6, 2010 10-Q filing, Merck disclosed that it had received letters from the DOJ and the SEC seeking information about activities in a number of countries and referencing the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. Merck disclosed that it cooperated with the agencies in their requests and that it believes that the inquiry is part of a broader review of pharmaceutical industry practices in foreign countries.

In its February 27, 2014 10-K filing, Merck disclosed that it had been advised by the DOJ that the DOJ had closed its inquiry into this matter. The SEC's investigation appears to be ongoing.
