According to the documents in this case, from approximately 2010 until 2014, when Banco Peravia and Peravia Group, a company formed by Jimenez, collapsed, Jimenez and his co-conspirators used Banco Peravia to facilitate illegal transactions and bribe payments to Venezuelan officials, including the head of the Venezuelan National Assembly's financial committee, via bank issued credit cards, cash disbursements, wire transfers, and other financial transactions.

On March 12, 2018, the DOJ filed a sealed single count Information in the Southern District of Florida against Jimenez alleging conspiracy to commit money laundering. On March 20, 2018, Jimenez entered into a plea agreement with the DOJ. The case was unsealed on November 20, 2018, and on November 29, 2018, the court sentenced Jimenez to three years in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release.
